There are numerous settings that can be changed on the IP phones, enabling you to customize them for
your specific environment. These customizations are listed below, but are covered in greater detail in
Appendix A on page 61.

Table 8. Phone Customization Overview

Description
Defines the number of minutes the backlight remains on once the phone
becomes idle. The backlight turns on whenever there is activity on the phone.
Defines how the date is displayed.
Sets the preferred CODEC, silence suppression algorithm, and packet size for
outgoing packets.
Sets the differentiated services code points (DSCPs) for outbound audio
packets from the phone. This is used to improve quality of service (QoS)
handling on the network.
Sets the DSCP for outbound signaling packets from the phone. This is used to
improve QoS handling on the network.
Enables daylight savings time (DST) adjustments beginning at the hour, week,
day, and month specified in DstStart through the time specified in DstEnd.
Adjusts the level of dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones played into the
network from the phone.
Enables/disables the Ethernet interface (local area network (LAN) port) and
sets the speed negotiation options.
Enables/disables the Ethernet interface (PC port) and sets the speed
negotiation options.
Customizes the extension label displayed on the second line of an idle phone.
Sets the time zone for the phone relative to GMT.
Adjusts the light and dark grey levels of the LCD display.
Enables/disables switchhook control via current detection on the headset
interface.
Disables the built-in HTTP server.
Specifies the port on which the HTTP server receives Transmission COntrol
Protocol (TCP) traffic.
Sets outbound tagging on audio packets.
Sets outbound tagging on signaling packets.
Sets the maximum time interval that the jitter buffer can utilize when dealing
with delayed or misordered packets.
Customizes the label displayed on the top line of the phone (e.g., the user
name or company name).
Sets the base port from which the phone transmits and receives media.
Customizes the password for restricted administration settings on the phone.
