Decommissioning

Warning: Always completely disconnect the
device from the power supply before performing
maintenance or electrical work.
Warning: The decommissioning must be car-
ried out by a trained, qualified person and must
be recorded in writing. The technical documen-
tation must be kept with the equipment.
The following instructions can be used for replac-
ing Fluids, fixing failed components or disassem-
bling the system. Depending on the task that is
required all or only some of the following steps will
be required.

1.
Turn off Solar Controller and unplug.
2.
Isolate the Solar Hot Water System, see Figure
20.
!
nOTE: By isolating the Solar Hot Water System
the Back-up system can continue to run to ensure
continuous Hot Water Supply.
3.
Cover Solar Collectors and allow the
system to cool - fluids, piping and
components, to minimize heat transfer during
Decommissioning.
CauTiOn: Due to the nature of the
components the system, they should be
allowed to cool and that draining should be
performed during the morning or evening hours
to reduce the amount of heat transfer and
subsequent hazard of scalding.
4.
on the Solar pumping Station, rotate the Shut-
off Ball valves (Figure 11D) to the Flushing &
Filling position (position 2 - Figure 18).
5.
Close the Isolating ball valve (Figure 11I)
located above the flow meter. (position 1 on
Figure 19)
6.
Attach the Flush and Fill pumping system to
the Flush and Fill valve connections on the
pumping station (Figure 11H).
CauTiOn: Ensure that the connections are
secure before opening the valves, since the
system is pressurized.

7.
open Flush and Fill valves and allow the
solution to drain out of the system.
!
nOTE: A secondary manual valve is necessary
to allow air into the system to assist in draining.
8.
Close the Flush and Fill Valves.
CauTiOn: Follow national and Local
Environmental Regulations for the disposal of
the Heat Transfer Solution.
!
nOTE: If the solution is being replaced, the
commissioning instructions can be followed to refill
the system.
CauTiOn: Ensure that the piping and Flush
and Fill pumping station has been thoroughly
cleaned to ensure that there is no cross
contamination of the heat transfer liquids (old
and new) that may shorten the life of the new
solutions.
!
nOTE: Maintenance on Solar Loop pumping
Station, Solar Collectors or associated piping can
now be performed.
9.
on the HXA pumping Station, rotate the Shut-
off Ball valves (Figure 14D), to the Flushing &
Filling position (position 2 - Figure 18).
10.
Attach the Flush and Fill pumping system to
the Flush and Fill valve connections on the
pumping station (Figure 14H).
11.
open Flush and Fill valves and pump the Heat
Transfer solution out of the system.
12.
When most of the solution has been removed
turn off the pump, and allow the remainder of
the solution to drain out of the system.
13.
Close the Flush and Fill Valves.
!
nOTE: If the solution is being replaced, the
commissioning instructions can be followed to refill
the system.
CauTiOn: Ensure that the piping and Flush
and Fill pumping station has been thoroughly
cleaned to ensure that there is no cross
contamination of the heat transfer liquids (old
and new) that may shorten the life of the new
solutions.
