Driving hints

The first 600 miles (1000 km)
Driv e y our v ehicle at various speed s. Do
not use full throttle. Never allow the engine
to labour at low rev s.
Make good use of all gears. Depress the
accelerator ped al a ma ximum of around
three quarters of the available p edal travel
in all gea rs and drive ra nges.
Do not d riv e faster than three quarters of
maximum speed .
The inform ation c oncerns the engine and
parts of the power train, e. g. the final drive.
Never coast with engine not
run ning
Many units will then not function (e.g. turn
signal indicators, brake servo unit, p ow er
steering, airba g system). Driving in this
manner is a d anger to yourself a nd others.
Brake servo unit
With the engine not running the brake
servo unit is no longer effective once the
brake peda l has been depressed once or
twice. The braking effect is not red uced but
substantia lly grea ter foot pressure is
necessary to stop the vehicle.
Drivin g hints
Power steering
N ever leav e the steering wheel on full lock
when the vehicle is stationary as this m ay
dam age the power steering pum p.
If the power steering should fail - e. g. when
the vehicle is being towed with the engine
switched off - the vehic le can still be
properly steered b ut c onsiderab ly greater
effort is necessary.
Driving in mo untainous terrain or
with caravan/trailer
Electrically driven fan: The fan cooling
cap acity is not dep endant on engine
speed. It is not necessary, therefore, w hen
driving uphill to shift down into a lower
gear if the vehicle can climb in a higher
gear.
Driving with a roof load
Do not exceed the perm issible roof load.
For safety reasons, distribute the loa d
evenly and secure it tightly with strap s so
that it cannot slip. Set the tyre inflation
pressure to the value given for full load. Do
not drive faster than 75 m ph (120 km/h).
C heck a nd retighten straps at frequent
interva ls.
