Thefuelfilter cannotbecleaned andshouldbereplaced every100operatinghours;
moreoftenif runwith oldgasoline.
1.
Remove a ll fuel fromtank byrunningengineuntil it stopsfrom lackof fuel.
2.
Usepliersto squeeze tabson the clamps, t henslidethe clamps awayfrom
the fuelfilter. SeeFigure 21.
3.
Twistandpullthe fuel linesoffof the fuelfilter.
4.
Replace w ith a newfuel filter.
5.
Secure the fuel lineswith the clamps.
Battery
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessories c ontain lead andlead
compounds,chemicalsknown to the Stateof Californiato causecancer a nd
reproductive h arm.Washhandsafter handling.
Thebatteryissealedandis maintenance-free. Acidlevels cannotbechecked a nd
fluid cannot beadded.
Alwayskeepthe batterycables andterminalscleanandfreeof corrosive
build-up.
Aftercleaning the batteryandterminals, a pplya lightcoatof petroleum jelly
or grease to bothterminals.
If removing the battery for cleaning,disconnectthe NEGATIVE (Black)wire
from it's terminal first, followed bythe POSITIVE ( Bed)wire. Whenre-
installing the battery, alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE ( Bed)wire its terminal
first, followed by the NEGATIVE (Black)wire. Becertain that the wires are
connectedto the correctterminals; reversingthem could result inserious
damageto your engine'salternating system.
Jump Starting
Neverjumpstart adamagedor frozenbattery. Becertain the vehiclesdo
not touch, andignitions are off. Donot allow cable clamps to touch.
1.
Connect p ositive(+) cableto positivepost(+) of yourmower'sdischarged
battery.
2.
Connect t heotherendof the cableto the (positive +) postofthe jumper
battery.
3.
Connect t hesecond cable(negative -) to the otherpostof the jumper
battery.
4.
Makethe final connection onthe engineblockof the mower, a wayfrom the
battery.Attachto anunpaintedpartto assure a goodconnection.
If the jumper battery isinstalledon avehicle(i.e.car,truck), d o NOT start
the vehicle'senginewhen jump starting yourmower.
5.
Startthe mower(asinstructedinthe Operation sectionof thismanual).
6.
Remove t he jumpercables in reverse orderofconnection.

Batteriesgive off an explosivegaswhile charging.Chargethe battery in a
well ventilated area andkeepawayfrom an openflame or pilot light ason
awater heater,spaceheater,furnace,clothesdryeror othergasappliances.
Whenchargingyourmower'sbattery, useonly achargerdesignedfor 12V
lead-acidbatteries. Bead your battery charger'sOwner'sManualprior to
chargingyourmower'sbattery. Alwaysfollow its instructions andheedits
warnings.
Ifyourmowerhasnot beenput into useforanextended periodoftime,chargethe
batteryasfollows:

Setyourbatterycharger t o delivera maxof 10amperes.
2.
Ifyourbatterycharger i sautomatic, c hargethe batteryuntilthe charger
indicates thatcharging iscomplete. I fthe chargerisnot automatic, c harge
for at leasteighthours.
Tire Pressure
Maximumtire pressureunderany circumstances is]0 psi.Equaltire
pressureshouldbe maintained at all times.
Periodically c heck the pressure o n bothyourmower'sreartires.Uneven tire pressure
will cause the cuttingdeckto mow unevenly andmayresultinmowerto veeringto
eitherthe left or rightduringoperation. R ecommended operatingtire pressure is
approximately 20p.sJ.Check the sidewall o f tire formaximump.sJ.
