Use this leverto selectanyof fourforwardgroundspeeds, n eutral,or reverse.
Forward
Fourforwardspeeds areavailable. P osition one(1)is the slowest a ndpositionfour
(4)isthe fastest.
Reverse
Toselectreverse, p ut the leverinthe Reverse ( R)position.
Lookbehind the mower beforeandduring reverse operation. Stopthe
mower bladesbeforeoperating in reverse.
Neutral
Place t helever i nneutral (N)before starting themower and when themower i s
notinuse. I naddition, themower can bemanually pushed o rpulled byplacing t he
gear s hiftlever i ntoN(neutral) position a ndpressing thedrive control against the
handlebar grip.
Alwaysrelease the drivecontrol beforechangingspeeds.Failureto do so
mayresultin seriousdamageto your transmission.

Whenthe ignition keyisrotatedout of theSTOP positionbut not into the START
position,the systems i ndicator monitordisplays the battery'soutput,involts,on
itsLCD for approximately f iveseconds, after whichitdisplays anhourglass and
the hoursof moweroperation. O nce the engineisstarted,the monitorcontinually
displays anhourglass andthe hoursof moweroperationon itsLCD. SeeFigure10.
NOTE: H ours of moweroperationarerecorded anytime the ignition keyisrotated
out

TheIndicator Monitorwill alsoremindthe operatorofmaintenance i ntervals f or
changingthe engine oil. TheLCD will alternately flashthe recorded hours,"CBG"
and"OIL"forfiveminutes,after every50 hours of recorded operationelapse. T he
maintenance i nterval l astsfor two hours(from50-52,100-102, 1 50-152, etc.).The
LCD will alsoflashasdescribed above forfive minutes everytime the mower's
enginehasbeenstartedduringthis maintenance i nterval. Beforethe interval
expires, c hange the engineoil asinstructed i nthe Maintenance s ectionofthis
Operator's Manual.
Battery
It isnormalforthe Batterylight to illuminatewhilethe engineiscranking during
start-up,but if it illuminates duringoperation, w hilethe engineisrunning,the
batteryisin needofa charge or the engine's charging systemisnot generating
sufficientamperage. Charge the batteryasinstructed inthe Service s ectionof this
manual o r have the charging systemchecked bySears or anotherqualifiedservice
dealer.
