Cleaningthe Mower
Anyfuel or oil spilledonthe machine shouldbewipedoff promptly.DoNOT allow
debris to accumulate around the coolingfinsof the engine,the transmission's
coolingfan or onanyotherpart ofthe machine, e specially the beltsandpulleys.
Smart Jet
Your m ower'sdeckisequippedwithawaterport on its surface aspartof its deck
washsystem.
Use the SmartJetto rinsegrassclippings fromthe deck'sunderside andprevent t he
buildupof corrosive chemicals. C omplete thefollowing steps AFTER E ACH MOWING:
Beforeusing the deckwashsystem,alwaysdisengagethe BladeControl,
stop engine and remove keyto preventunintended starting,

Position the mowerona level, c learspoton yourlawn,nearenough foryour
garden hoseto reach.
2.
Thread the hosecoupler(packaged w ith yourmower'sOperator's M anual)
ontothe endofyourgardenhose.
3.
Attachthe hosecoupler t o the waterport onthe decksurface. S eeFigure 22.
4.
Turnthe wateron.
5.
Starttheengineandplace the throttle leverinthe FAST'_ position.
6.
Whileinthe operator's positionbehindthe mower,movethe Blade Control
into the ON position.
7.
Remain inthe operator's positionwith thecuttingdeckengaged fora
minimumof twominutes,allowingthe underside of the cuttingdeckto
thoroughlyrinse.
8.
Movethe Blade Control i nto the OFF position.
9.
Turnthe ignitionkeyto the STOP ( _
positionto turn the mower'sengine
off.
10.
Turnthe wateroff anddetachthe hosecouplerfromthe waterport onyour
deck's surface.
Aftercleaning yourdeckwith the SmartJetsystem, s tartthe mower's engine,
returnto the operator's positionandengage the blades. K eep the cuttingdeck
runningfora minimumoftwo minutes,allowingthe underside ofthe cuttingdeck
to thoroughlydry.
Lubrication
Beforelubricating, repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO, set
parking brake,stop engine and removekeyto preventunintended starting,
Pivot Points & Linkage
Lubricate all the pivot pointson the drivesystemandlift linkageat leastoncea
season w ith lightoil.
Front Wheels
Each ofthe front wheelaxles andcasters isequipped with agrease fitting. See
Figure 23. Lubricate witha No.2multi-purpose grease appliedwith agrease gun
afterevery50hoursof moweroperation.

RearWheels
Therearwheels shouldberemoved from the axles onceaseason. L ubricate the
axlesandrim hubswellwith anall-purposegrease beforereinstalling them.
