Adjustments
Shutthe engine off and removethe ignitionkeybefore making
adjustments.
Handle
Height
Theupperhandleissecured to two supportbarsthatcanbeadjusted to raiseor
lowerthe handleheight.Adjustif necessary a sfollows:
1.
Remove t he upperstarknobandcarriage screwonthe rightsideof the
handleandthe left sideof the handle.SeeFigure 24.
2.
Pivotthe handleforwardor rearwardto alignoneof the threeholeson each
supportbarwith the holeson the handle.
3.
Reinstall the upperstarknobandcarriage screwonthe right sideof
the handleandthe [eft sideof the handlewhenacomfortable heightis
achieved.
Blade TimingBelt
Thecuttingdeckspindles aredrivenbyatiming (cogged) b elt,assuring thatthe
deckblades arealwaysperpendicular to eachother.At leastonceaseason, o r after
strikinganyforeignobject, c heckthetiming beltasfollows:
I.
Remove t he belt coverbyremoving the threescrews andwashers which
secure it to the frame.SeeFigure 25.
Donot operate mowerwithout the belt cover i nstalled. F ailureto follow
this instruction could resultin personalinjuryor property damage.
2.
Thetop ofeachspindlepulleyismarked with an arrow.SeeFigure 26.The
arrowsshouldbeperpendicular (ata90° angle)to eachother.
3.
If the arrows on the surface ofeachspindlepulleyarenot perpendicular (at
a90° angle)to eachother,seeyourSears or otherqualifiedservice dealerto
havethe timingbelt reset.
Donot operatethe machinewithout the deck'stimingbelt properlyset.
Failuretofollow thisinstruction couldresultin personalinjuryor property
damage.
Cutting DeckRemoval
Beforeperforming any maintenanceor repairs, d isengageblades,stop
engine andremovekeyto prevent unintendedstarting.
Toremove the cuttingdeck,proceed asfollows:
I.
Remove t he belt coverbyremoving the threescrews andwashers which
secure it to the frame.SeeFigure 25.
Donotoperate mowerwithout the belt coverinstalled. F ailureto follow
thisinstruction could resultin personalinjuryor property damage.
2.
Place thedeckheightleverin its highestposition.
