tape loaded in the VCR, or if the VCR is recording,
this feature is not available. Load a tape into the VCR or stop
recording.
Indexsearch techniques
Index search is a very useful way to find speciific points on a tape.
Index search works by placing index marks at important places
on a tape. Then, you use index search to find these marks. Index
marks are added automatically whenever your VCR starts a new
recording; you can also add index marks manually at any spot
when recording.
automatic indexmarks
Whenever recording is begun from the STOP mode, an index
mark is automatically added to the tape. The index light (_7) _411
flash on the fluorescent display, and an on-screen messag_ will
indicate that the mark is being recorded.
Index marks are not added when you press PAUSE to beg_in
recording from the record-pause mode.

To add an index mark yourself, press the REC button on the
remote control while a tape is recording.
Index marks must be added at least one minute apart.

To searchfor anindexmark:

Press the INDEX SEARCH %" button on the remote control
to begin a forward search; press INDEX SEARCH "-" '_o begin
a search in the reverse direction. The VCR will fast foz_ward or
rewind, and one of two screens (left) will be displayed,
Once the VCR finds an index mark, it will begin playback
from that point.
You can press the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons up to 19 times
to search for that many index marks. For example, to find the
third index mark ahead, press the plus (+) button three times.
To cancel index search, press PLAY or STOP.
You cannot begin an index search when the VCR is in still frame.
