Creating animations

Create animation symbols

You can create an animation symbol from scratch or by converting an object to a symbol. You can then set properties
that determine the number of states in the animation and the type of action, such as scaling or rotation. By default, a
new animation symbol has five states, each with a delay time of 0.07 seconds.
For information on using states for animation, see David Hogue's article
Create an animation symbol
Select Edit > Insert > New Symbol.
1
In the Convert To Symbol dialog box, enter a name for the new symbol.
2
3
Select Animation, and click OK.
4
In the document panel, use the drawing or text tools to create an object. You can draw vector or bitmap objects.
When you finish editing the symbol, switch to the overall page. (See
5
on page 148.)
Fireworks places the symbol in the Document Library and a copy in the center of the page.
You can add new states to the symbol using the States slider in the Property inspector. Select Window > Properties
to open the Property inspector, if it's not already open.
Convert an object to an animation symbol
Select the object.
1
2
Select Modify > Animation > Animate Selection.
3
Edit the symbol by setting animation properties.
Animation controls appear on the bounding box of the object, and a copy of the symbol is added to the library.

Edit animation symbols

You can change a variety of symbol properties, such as animation opacity and rotation. You can make a symbol appear
to rotate, speed up, fade in and out, or any combination of these properties.
A key property is number of states. When you set this property, Fireworks automatically adds to the document the
number of states required to complete the action. If the symbol requires more states than currently exist in the
animation, Fireworks asks whether to add extra states.
You change animation properties using either the Animate dialog box or the Property inspector.
