and set configuration and run-time parameters of routers and communication
servers. SNMP defines a set of functions that can be used to monitor and control
network elements. (For complete information on SNMP, refer to the appropriate
software configuration publications, which are listed in the section "If You Need
More Configuration Information," later in this chapter.)

The Connectionless Network Service (CLNS) is an Open System

Interconnection (OSI) layer service that does not require a circuit to be
established before data is transmitted. CLNS routes messages to their
destinations independently of any other messages. (For complete information on
