LINCOLN ELECTRIC
To test the 240 VAC auxiliary winding:
9. Connect the meter probes to leads 6F and 3E where they connect to the 120/240 VAC receptacle or
insert the probes into the 240 VAC connection slots in the front of the receptacle. See Figure F.8.
See Wiring Diagram.
10. Start the engine and run at high idle (3700 RPM).
11. Using a volt/ohmmeter, check the AC voltage reading. It should read between 236 and 252 VAC.
12. If the voltage readings are not within the specified limits, check for tripped or defective circuit
breakers, loose connections or broken wires between the test points and the stator windings. If
there are no wiring problems and the circuit breakers are not tripped or defective, the stator is
defective and should be replaced.
To test the 120 VAC wire feeder supply:
NOTE: The wire feeder AC voltage supply tests require that the meter probes be inserted into the
Amphenol connection cavities. Care should be taken to avoid damaging or expanding the terminals
when inserting the probes.
NOTE: The 120 VAC power supplied to the 14 pin Amphenol connector originates from the same
winding that supplies the 120 VAC receptacles. If the machine has previously passed 120 VAC
auxiliary winding test, this test can only reveal problems in connections or components between the
Amphenol and the stator winding.
13. Connect the volt/ohmmeter probes to pins "A" (lead 32) and "J" (lead 31) of the 14 pin Amphenol.
See Figures F.8 and F.9. See Wiring Diagram.
14. Start the engine and run at high idle (3700 RPM).
15. The AC voltage reading should be between 120 and 135* VAC.
*These values are maximum for a cold machine.
16. If the voltage readings are not within specifications, check for tripped or defective circuit breaker,
faulty connections or broken wires between the test points and the stator windings.
To test the 42 VAC wire feeding winding:
17. Connect the volt/ohmmeter probes to pins "I" (lead 41A) and "K" (lead 42A) of the 14 pin
Amphenol. See Figures F.8 and F.9.
18. Start the engine and run at high idle (3700 RPM).
19. The AC voltage reading should be between 40 and 50 VAC.
20. If the voltage readings are not within the specified limits, check for tripped or defective circuit
breakers, loose connections or broken wires between the test points and the stator windings. If
there are no wiring problems and the circuit breakers are not tripped or defective, the stator is
defective and should be replaced.
To test the three-phase weld winding:
21. Locate weld winding leads W1, W2 and W3 where they connect to the three-phase output bridge
rectifier. See Wiring Diagram.
22. Start the engine and run at high idle (3700 RPM).
23. Using a volt/ohmmeter, measure the voltage from leads W1 to W2, W2 to W3 and W1 to W3. See
Wiring Diagram. Voltage should be about 60 to 65 VAC.
