Coolant
The engine coolant performs two functions: it
keeps the engine from overheating and it pro-
tects the engine from freezing in the winter.
The cooling system is sea led and generally re-
q uires litt le at t en t ion.
The cooling system has been filled at the fac-
tory with a pe rma nent coolant which does not
need to be changed. The coolant consists of a
mixt ure of wa t er and t he m a nufactu rer 's g ly-
col-based coolant addit ive Gl3 antifreeze
with anticorrosion additives (50% for USA
mod els; 60% for Canadian models) . This mix-
ture both assures the necessary frost protec -
tion and protects metal components
in t he
engine's cooling system from corrosion and
scaling .
It
also ra ises the bo iling po int of the
coolant.
Do not reduce the concentration of the coo l-
ant in the summer by adding plain water. The
proportion of coolant addit ive must be at
least 50% but not more than 60 % to ma in-
tain antifree ze protection and cooling efficie n-
cy. If t he cool ant frost pro t ect io n is too low,
the coo lant cou ld freeze and damage the veh i-
cle heating and engine cooling system.

Note
- Bef ore winte r sets in, have the coo lant
checke d t o see if t he cool a nt ad dit ive in
your vehicle is sufficient to meet t he cli-
mate conditions . This is especia lly impor -
tant if you live in a region where the win-
ter is extreme ly cold. If necessary, in-
crease the proportion of coo lant add itive
to 60% .
- When adding coolant additive to your
cooling system, remember :
- We recommend using o nly coola nt ad-
dit ive Gl2++ or Gl 3 (check the labe l)
for your vehi cle . This coolan t additive is
ava ila ble at autho rized Audi dea le rs.
Othe r ty pes of antifreeze can sig nifi-
cantly reduce corros ion protection. The
resu lting corrosion can cause a loss of
coolant and serio us engine damage.
- Do not add any type of rad iator leak seal -
ant to your vehicle 's engine coolant.
Add ing radiator repair flu id may adverse-
ly affect the function and performance of
your cooling system and could resu lt in
damage not covered by you r New Ve hicle
