Changing the engine oil
The engine oil and oil filter must be changed
according to the mi leage (ki lometers) and
time interva ls specified in your vehicle's War-
ranty & Maintenance booklet . Do not exceed
these intervals - harmful depos its from old
engine oil can reduce engine performance and
can lead to expensive engine repairs .
Changing the oil at the recommended inter-
vals is so very important because the lubricat-
ing properties of oi l decrease gradually during
normal vehicle use. If you are not sure when
you have your oil changed, ask your author-
ized Audi Service Advisor .
Under some circumstances the engine oil
should even be changed more frequently .
Change oil mo re often if you dr ive mostly
short distances, operate the vehicle in dusty
areas or mostly under st op-and -go traffic con-
ditions , or when you use your veh icle whe re
temperatures stay below free zing point fo r
long periods .
Detergent add it ives in the oil w ill ma ke fresh
oil look dark after the engine has been run-
ning fo r a shor t time . This is norma l and is not
a reason to change the oil more often than
recommended.
Damage or malfun ction s due t o lack of
maintenance
It is essential that you change your oil at the
recommended int ervals using only engine oil
th at compl ies wi t h Audi oil standard VW 502

not cover damage or malfunctions due to fa il-
ure to follow recommended maintenance and

oils available today provide better engine lu-
brication that can outlast tradit ional petrole-
um-based oils, making them a smart choice
for use throughout the l ife of your Audi .
Whether you use synthetic or pet roleum-
based engine oil, the oil that you use must
conform to Audi's oil quality standards
VW 50 1 0 1 or VW SOS 00 and must have a
viscosity of SAE lOW-60 to help keep your ve-
hicle's engine running smoo t hly and help pre-
vent the forma t ion of harmf ul deposits,
somet imes called "s ludge," tha t over t ime can
lead to expensive repairs.
