Changing the engine oil
The engine oil and oil fi lt er must be changed
according to t he mileage (ki lometers) and
time intervals specified in your vehicle's War-
ranty
&
Maintenance booklet . Do not exceed
these interva ls - harmful deposits from old
engine oil can reduce engine performance and
can lead to expensive eng ine repairs.
Changing the oil at the recommended inter-
vals is so very important because the lubricat-
ing proper t ies of oil decrease gradually during
normal veh icle use. If you are not sure when
you have your oil changed, ask your author-
ized Audi Service Advisor.
Under some circumstances t he engine oil
sho uld even be changed more frequent ly.
Change oil mo re often if you dr ive most ly
short distances, operate the vehicl e in dusty
areas or most ly under stop-and -go t raff ic con-
diti ons, or when you use your vehicle where
temperatures stay below freezing point f or
long periods.
Detergent additive s in the oil will make fres h
oil look dark after the engine has been ru n-
ning for a short time. Thi s is normal and is not
a reason to change the oil more often t han
recommended.
