Troubleshooting
Problem
Gas engine pulls hard (won't
start).
Engine won't start.
Engine operates, but dis-
placement pump does not
operate.
Displacement pump oper-
ates, but output is low on
upstroke.
3A3426A Operation
Cause
Hydraulic pressure is too high.
Engine switch is OFF.
Engine is out of gas.
Engine oil level is low.
Spark plug cable is disconnected or dam-
aged.
Cold engine.
Fuel shutoff lever is OFF.
Oil is seeping into combustion chamber.
Pump valve is OFF.
Pressure setting is too low.
Fluid filter is dirty.
Tip or tip filter is clogged.
Displacement pump piston rod is stuck due to
dried paint.
Belt worn, broken or off pulley.
Hydraulic fluid too low.
Hydraulic motor not shifting.
Piston ball is not seating.
Piston packings are worn or damaged.
Solution
Turn hydraulic pressure knob counterclock-
wise to lowest setting.
Turn engine switch ON.
Refill gas tank. Honda Engines Owner's Man-
ual.
Try to start engine. Replenish oil, if neces-
sary. Honda Engine Owner's Manual.
Connect spark plug cable or replace spark
plug.
Use choke.
Move lever to ON position.
Remove spark plug. Pull starter 3 to 4 times.
Clean or replace spark plug. Start engine.
Keep sprayer upright to avoid oil seepage.
Turn pump valve ON.
Turn pressure adjusting knob clockwise to
increase pressure.
Clean filter.
Clean tip or tip filter. See spray gun manual.
Repair pump. See pump manual.
Replace.
Shut off sprayer. Add Hydraulic fluid.
Set pump valve OFF. Turn pressure down.
Turn engine OFF. Pry rod up or down until
hydraulic motor shifts.
Service piston ball. Manual 309277.
Replace packings. Manual 309277.
