For your reference
eOolby Digital is a digital sound compression technique developed
by Dolby Laboratodas.
Supporting 5.1-channel surround sound, as well as stereo (2-chan-
sel) sound, this technique enables a iorge quantity of sound data to
be efficiently recorded on a disc.
eDTS Digital Surround is a 5.1-channel surround sound system,
which is widely used in movie theaters around the world, The sepa-
ration between channels is good and provides a very real surround
effect.
eLinear PCM is an uncomprassed digital audio signal. While a CD is
recorded in 44,1 kHTJ16 bit, a DVD is recorded in 48 kHz/16 bit up
to 96 kHz/24 bit. Therefore, the sound reproduced with these sig-
nals is potentially
better than that found on CDs. This unit reproduc-
es linear PCM in two channels.
eBitstream is a compressed digital audio signal. This signal can be
decoded into different channels to produce, for instance, 5.1-chan-
nel surround sound.
eThe digital audio output terminal (optical) converts alectdcal signals
into optical signals and transfers them to an amplifier. These optical
signals are immune to electrical interference, and they also have
minimal effect on other equipment.

• 1 If if is set to "Yes", the unit converts linear PCM to 48 kHz even
during analogue output.
Do the following
if you wish to take advantage of high quality
96 kHz sound.
Select "No" and connect this unit's audio output terminal to an
amplifier's audio input terminal w;th the audioMdeo
cable (in-
cluded) or an audio cable (not included),
• 2When connecting
an amplifier (with an optical or coaxial digital
input terminal) which does not contain a Dolby Digital or DTS Dig-
ital Surround decoder, be sure to select "PCM" at "2 Dolby Digital"
and "Off" at "3 DTS Digital Surround'. If =Bitstream" is selected,
any attempt to play DVDs (or CDs encoded with DTS) may cause
a high level of noise that can injure your ears and damage your
speakers.
