PROGRAM
About the depth of field
The depth of field is the in-focus range, measured from the distance behind a subject to the distance in front.
The depth of field can vary with the aperture value and the focal length. Lowering the F value (larger aperture)
reduces the depth of field. Raising the F value (smaller aperture) provides a larger depth of field. Zooming in
telephoto position offers a smaller depth of field while the depth of field in wide-angle position is greater.
Note on selection of the aperture
A flashing ® indicator in the viewfinder indicates insufficient or excessive lighting condition for the aperture
priority mode. Although it is possible to record when this happens, we recommend resetting the aperture.
e Insufficient light (the picture in the viewfinder is dark).
Select a lower value.
e Excessive light (the picture in the viewfinder is too bright).
Select a higher value.
While the ® indicator is flashing, you cannot use the one-push white balance mode (p.38). Operate before
adjusting with the CONTROL dial or select the value so that the indicator does not flash.
