7. Turn the generator rotor 180
°
coun-
terclockwise to position the right
piston at top dead center. In this
position the "T" mark will be aligned
with the index mark.
8. Check right cylinder valve tappet clear-
ance. The adjustment procedure is the
same as described in step 6.
9. Reinstall the fuel tank.
Cam Chain Adjustment
A loose cam chain will cause the valve
timing to change, resulting in poor perfor-
mance and excessive engine noise.
1.
Adjustment must be made when the
four valves are closed completely and
the tappets are free. This position
occurs 90
°
A.T .D.C. on the com-
pression stroke of the left side cylin-
der. Rotate the generator rotor coun-
terclockwise until index mark on the
stator is
90°
A.T.D.C.
("LT"
mark).
If the valves are still
lifted,
rotate the
rotor
360°
and realign the marks.
2.
Loosen the tensioner lock nut@(page
44) and the tensioner bolt
CD.
When these are loosened, the cam chain
tensioner will

automatically position
itself to provide the correct cam chain
tension.
