PR E-R ID I NG INSPECT I 0 N '//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Prior to
starting your motorcycle, per-
form
a
general
inspection as a matter of
habit to make sure that the motorcycle is
in
good,
safe riding
condition.
This
in-
spection will
only
require a few minutes
and
can save you much time and expense
in
the long run.
Check
the
following
items
and if adjust-
ment
or
servicing
is necessary, refer to the
appropriate
section in the manual.
1. Engine oil level-add engine oil if it is
below
the lower level mark on the
dipstick
(page
32).
2. Fuel
level-fill
gasoline tank if neces-
sary (page
18).
3.
Front and rear brakes-adjust brake
free
play if
incorrect
(pages
54- 56).

Tire
pressure-
inflate tires if pressure is
too low (page 21 ).
5. Drive
chain-
check condHion of drive
chain and measure chain
slack.
Adjust
drive chain if chain slack is incorrect.
Lubricate the drive chain if it appears
dry.
Replace the drive chain if it is
badly worn or damaged (pagess
1- 53).
6. Throttle
operation-
check
throttle
operation in all steering positions.
Adjust if free play is incorrect. Re-
place or correct cable routing if throt-
tle does not operate freely in all steer-
ing positions (pages 45
-
46)
.
7. Turn signal light, tail /stoplight and
headlight-repair when they do not
operate properly (pages
69-
71 ).
