WARNING
Installing and servicing this equipment requires
access to parts which may cause electrostatic
shock or other serious injury if the work is not per-
formed properly. Do not install or service this equip-
ment unless you are trained and qualified.
WARNING
Pressure Relief Procedure
To reduce the risk of serious injury, including fluid
injection, splashing in the eyes or on skin, or elec-
trostatic shock, always follow this procedure when-
ever the pump is shut off, when checking or servic-
ing any part of system, when installing or changing
spray tips and whenever you stop spraying.
1. Turn off all the air to the spray gun except the
cylinder (CYL) air that triggers the gun.
2. Turn off the fluid supply to the gun.
3. Trigger the gun into a grounded metal waste
container to relieve fluid pressure.
4. Open the pump drain valve (required in sys-
tem) to help relieve fluid pressure in the dis-
placement pump. In addition, open the drain
valve connected to the fluid pressure gauge (in
a system with fluid regulation) to help relieve
fluid pressure in the hose and gun. Triggering
the gun to relieve pressure may not be suffi-
cient. Have a container ready to catch the
drainage.
5. Leave the pump drain valve open until you are
ready to spray again.
If you suspect that the spray tip or hose is com-
pletely clogged or that pressure has not been fully
relieved after following the steps above, v ery slowly
loosen the hose end coupling and relieve pressure
gradually, then loosen completely. Now clear the tip
or hose obstruction.
NOTE: Check all possible remedies in Troubleshoot-
ing, page 23 to 25, before disassembling the gun.
Service

Flush the Gun and Relieve Pressure

To reduce the risk of fire, explosion, or electrostatic
shock, be sure the turbine air (electrostatics) is off
before flushing the gun.
Methylene chloride is not recommended as a flush-
ing or cleaning solvent with this gun as it will dam-
age nylon components.
Before removing the gun for service, flush it, then fol-
low the Pressure Relief Procedure Warning, at left.
Notes:
If the plastic parts of the gun must be held in a vise,
only use padded vise jaws to avoid damaging parts.
Always remove the gun from the worksite for
service or repair. The service or repair area must
be clean.
When servicing the PRO AA5500 Gun, make sure
you do not mix or use other PRO Gun parts that
may look similar, but have different part numbers.
See the WARNING below. Note that the air cap,
spray tip, and tip guard for this gun are orange.
PRO
Gun Non-interchangeable Parts
Some PRO AA5500 Gun replacement parts look
similar to other PRO Gun parts but are not inter-
changeable! When servicing, do not mix or use
other PRO Gun parts that may look similar, but
have different part numbers! Use of parts other
than those specified in the PRO AA5500 Gun parts
list on page 43 could alter the grounding continuity
of the gun, cause parts to leak or rupture, or cause
the gun to malfunction and result in serious injury,
fire, explosion or property damage.
