Defective Lamp Symptoms, Replacement, & Time Reset
Lamp End of Life Symptoms
Two symptoms can occur requiring lamp replacement:
Symptom
1. The front panel Lamp LED
blinks (red) without pause.
The Power LED blinks orange.
2. Picture blinks or TV works for
5-20mins then goes dark, re-
lighting in about 40 sec.
Notice
– Before replacing the lamp, verify the ballast circuitry operation. Remove the
lamp and then replace the lamp door (without a lamp inside). Remove the rear panel
(18 screws). Refer to figure 24 for the location of spark gap Z001. While watching
spark gap Z001 through the perforated ballast shield, turn-on the TV. After 38 seconds,
the spark gap should emit light caused by a HV arc, which should last for about 1/2
second. The presence of the arc indicates that the ballast is working properly and that
the defect must be in either the lamp or in its socket. If no arc is evident, check for 2 DC
voltages input the ballast board before replacing the ballast (see ballast section for
diagrams). The shield was removed in figure 25 to help in locating Z001 only. Do not
remove the shield.
