STEERING / SUSPENSION

BALL JOINT INSTALLATION

1. By hand, install the NEW ball joint into the A-arm.
2. Using a press, carefully drive in the new ball joint into
the A-arm.
3. After the new ball joint

, inspect the snap ring groove for any damage,
dirt, or debris. Clean groove, if necessary.
A pick, stiff bristled brush, or other suitable tool may be
used to clean the snap ring groove.
4. install a new retaining ring
5. Measure the installed end gap of the retaining ring to
ensure it is fully seated and within specification.
MEASUREMENT
Retaining Ring Installed End Gap:
No greater than 5 mm
6. If the installed end gap of the retaining ring exceeds 5
mm, remove retaining ring, inspect and clean groove
as necessary. Install a NEW retaining ring and repeat
measurement.

7. Repeat the ball joint service procedure for any
additional A-arm ball joint replacements.
8. Insert upper / lower A-arm ball joint end into the
bearing carrier. Install new pinch bolts and nuts.
Torque to specification.
9. If needed, install new brake caliper mounting bolts
and torque to specification.
10. Install wheel and four wheel nuts. Torque wheel nuts
to specification.
TORQUE
Front Ball Joint Fasteners:
40 ft-lbs (54 Nm)
Front Shock Mounting Bolts:
70 ft-lbs (95 Nm)
Front Caliper Mounting Bolts:
30 ft-lbs (42 Nm)
Wheel Nuts (Aluminum):
120 ft-lbs (163 Nm)
