Project Planning

Before selecting a Cellular Router Kit for your customer, determine the cellular signal strength at the
customer site with a specific cellular carrier. Another consideration is whether this will be a temporary
cell router implementation or a long term solution.

Performing a Site Survey

To ensure trouble free operation, it is recommended that a site survey be performed prior to the
installation of the cellular router. A site survey can provide insight into the best installation location for
the cellular router. The cellular router should be installed where a reliable 4G/LTE signal can be
obtained.
The cellular strength in a BAS location is highly dependent upon the construction of the building and the
location within the building. For example, the cellular signal will not be the same in the basement or a
mechanical room as it will be when close to the exterior of the building next to glass.
A smart phone with the same cellular carrier as the cellular router can be a convenient tool because it
can be easily moved from location to location during the survey process. In the absence of a smart
phone, the cellular router itself may be used to determine the best installation location.

Solve Networks Cellular Service and Renewal Process

The Trane Cellular Router Solution is designed to work with Solve Networks connectivity service. Solve
Networks is a partner with INS and a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that utilizes the cellular
infrastructure from Verizon and AT&T U.S. Solve provides simplified billing and subscription
management offerings specifically designed to support the Trane Cellular Router Solution. (For
connectivity in Canada, contact Solve Networks at 888-365-0913, to discuss available options). Solve
Networks typically uses the Verizon Wireless LTE network by default unless AT&T is specifically
requested at the time of order. There are several ways to determine which carrier network is best; the
most reliable mechanism is known as "local knowledge".
A SIM card for the specific carrier will be installed for the cellular router to communicate on each specific
carrier network. The SIM cards are factory-installed by INS and shipped activated and tested ready-to-
be-used. Each new Trane Cellular Router Kit includes the first 12 months/12GB of data from Solve
Networks and support from INS with the initial cost of the kit. (Other rate plan offerings are available
upon request).
At the time of order, provide INS the following:
At the end of the first 12–month service period, the service will renew for an additional 12 months and
will be billed on the next month's Solve Networks invoice. Solve Networks will contact the account
owner prior to the conclusion of the initial 12–month service period to determine if the service will:

Ask the staff at your customer's facility about cellular coverage while using their own personal
phones/carriers. Some sample questions might include: what carrier works best for most cell phone
users in this building? Are there any areas in the building where you are unable to get phone
service?
Test the signal strength at the customer site by using your own personal mobile device. This can
provide first-hand knowledge of signal strength for a particular carrier. In the absence of local
knowledge, conduct your own research by visiting cellular phone coverage and signal websites. In
