Periodic maintenance and adjustment

1. Dipstick
4. Remove the dipstick and check that the
oil is between the maximum and mini-
mum level marks on the "REVERSE" side
of the dipstick. If the oil is below the mi-
nimum level mark, add sufficient oil of
the recommended type to raise it to the
maximum level mark. NOTICE: Make
sure that no foreign material enters
the drive chain housing.

To adjust the chain tension

Recommended drive chain oil:
SAE 75W or 80W API GL-3 Gear oil
Install the dipstick, making sure to align
the notch in the dipstick handle with the
projection on the drive chain housing.

Install the right side cover and the
shroud, or close the shroud.
Remove the shroud and the right side
cover [RST1NTF / RST1NTFY (see page
59 for the procedures)], or open the
shroud [RST9N (see page 61 for the pro-
cedures)].
Loosen the locknut.
Turn the chain tension adjusting bolt
clockwise until it is finger tight, and then
loosen it 1/4 turn.
