Controls
General
▷ Normal braking: brake lights illuminate.
▷ Heavy braking: brake lights flash.
Shortly before the vehicle comes to a stand‐
still, the hazard warning lights are activated.
To deactivate the hazard warning lights:
▷ Accelerate.
▷ Press the hazard warning lights button.
Active Protection
General
The Active Protection safety package consists
of systems independent of each other:
▷ Attentiveness assistant.
▷ PreCrash.
▷ PostCrash.
Attentiveness assistant
Principle
The system can detect decreasing attentive‐
ness or tiring of the driver on long monotonous
journeys, for example on motorways. In this sit‐
uation, it is recommended that you take a
break.
Safety note
WARNING
The system does not release you from
your personal responsibility to assess your
physical condition. Increasing inattention or fa‐

tigue might not be detected, or may not be de‐
tected in good time. There is a danger of acci‐
dents. Make sure that the driver is rested and
alert. Adapt your driving style to the traffic con‐
ditions.◀
Function
The system is switched on every time the en‐
gine is started and cannot be switched off.
After commencement of the journey, the sys‐
tem is adapted to the driver so that an de‐
crease in attention or fatigue can be detected.
This process considers the following criteria:
▷ Personal driving style, for example, steer‐
ing.
▷ Driving conditions, for example, time of
day, duration of drive.
The system is active from approxi‐
mately 70 km/h, 43 mph and can display a rec‐
ommendation to take a break.
Recommendation to take a break
If the driver's attention drops or she/he be‐
comes tired, a note is shown on the Control
Display with the recommendation to take a
break.
A recommendation to take a break will only be
displayed once during an uninterrupted jour‐
ney.
After a break, another break recommendation
cannot be displayed until after approximately
45 minutes at the earliest.
System limits
The function may be restricted in situations
such as the following and an incorrect warning,
or no warning at all, may be output:
▷ If the time is set incorrectly.
▷ When the speed is predominantly below
approx. 70 km/h, 43 mph.
▷ If a sporty driving style is adopted, for ex‐
ample sharp acceleration or fast cornering.
