ELECTRONIC KEYER

The keyer supplied with the TS-870S is a full-featured
K-1 Logikey keyer that will delight anybody that respects
a good keyer. A great deal of information on using this
keyer is provided in this manual, not because it is
difficult to use, but because it has an incredible number
of features. Some of the features of your keyer include:
Iambic operation with dot and dash memories
Programmable via commands sent from your key
Emulation modes for other keyer types — you won't
have to re-train yourself if you're used to a keyer with
different timing
Soft-sectored messages that can "call" each other
and can contain embedded functions
Automatic contest serial number generation
Digital and linear speed control (6 ~ 60 wpm)
Adjustable weight for code elements (25% ~ 75%)
Tune function for continuous key down
Selectable automatic character spacing
Message loop capability for continuous replay
It is probably best to learn the keyer's basic functions
first, then use it on-the-air. Over time, you will build up
your knowledge of its operation bit by bit. Don't try to
memorize everything at one time!
Points to know before beginning:
Although the sidetone can be heard while using any
mode, CW mode must be selected to set functions
on the keyer.
When pressing two or more keys on the keypad to
select a keyer function, press the correct keys as
instructed, then release them. You know you've held
them down too long if you hear a continuous tone
before releasing the keys. In this case, a rapid
multi-dit error alarm sounds when you release the
keys to confirm the error.
