SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The 3M™ Powerflow Face Mounted Powered Air Respirator System 7900PF is
designed to provide respiratory protection against solid and non-volatile liquid
particles only.
This product meets the requirements of EN 12942 (power assisted devices
incorporating full face masks).
Air is supplied to the wearer thus reducing fatigue associated with inhaling
unassisted through the filter.
Should the Powered Air Turbo fail or the battery charge fall during use the
wearer is provided with a reduced level of protection to enable safe exit from
the contaminated area.

^ WARNINGS AND LIMITATIONS

Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are essential
in order for the product to help protect the wearer from certain airborne
contaminants. Failure to follow all instructions on the use of these
respiratory protection products and/or failure to properly wear the
complete product during all periods of exposure may adversely affect the
wearer's health, lead to severe or life threatening illness or permanent
disability.
For suitability and proper use follow local regulations, refer to all information
supplied or contact a safety professional or 3M on 0870 60 800 60 (UK) or
1800 320 500 (Ireland).
Use this respirator system strictly in accordance with all instructions:
• contained in this booklet
• accompanying other components of the system (e.g. 3M™ Filter and 3M™
Facepiece User Instructions)
See all instructions for use and save for continuing reference.
Do not use in concentrations of contaminant above 40 times the Workplace
Exposure Limit (WEL).
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric
contaminants or when concentrations of contaminants are unknown or
immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen. (3M definition.
Individual countries may apply their own limits on oxygen deficiency. Seek
advice if in doubt).
Only use with the spares and accessories listed and within the usage
conditions given in the Technical Specification.
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.
Leave the contaminated area immediately if:
a) Any part of the system becomes damaged.
b) Airflow to the facepiece decreases or stops.
c) Breathing becomes difficult or increased breathing resistance occurs.
d) Dizziness or other distress occurs.
e) You smell or taste contaminants or irritation occurs.
Never modify or alter this product. Replace parts only with original 3M spare
parts.
^ Do not use in flammable atmospheres.
Select and wear appropriate protection when exposed to sparks and/or flames.
In case of intended use in explosive atmospheres, contact 3M.
Do not use with beards or other facial hair that may inhibit contact
between the face and the product thus preventing a good seal.
Very high work rates (where the pressure within the facepiece can become
negative) can reduce protection.
Adjust equipment as appropriate or consider an alternative form of respiratory
protective device.
Materials which may come into contact with the wearer's skin are not known to
cause allergic reactions to the majority of individuals.
These products do not contain components made from natural rubber latex.
Only use with the spectacle kit available as an accessory with this product, and
ensure spectacle arms do not interfere with the faceseal.
Safe Use of Battery Chargers
To reduce the risks associated with exposure to hazardous voltage which, if not
avoided, could result in serious injury or death:
- Do not use the chargers outdoors or in wet environments.
- Do not attempt to service the chargers. There are no user-serviceable parts
inside.
- Inspect the chargers and power cords before use. Replace if any parts are
damaged.
- Do not substitute, modify or add parts to the chargers.
To ensure safe charging of batteries, only use combinations of batteries and
chargers as specified on the reference leaflet.
Safe Use of Rechargeable Lithium Batteries
Lithium cells are very high-energy systems and as such must be treated with
care. The following safety considerations should be observed:
Battery packs should not be exposed to temperatures in excess of 70°C
(158°F).
Particular care should be taken that battery packs are not overloaded or
shorted.
Do not attempt to discharge the battery pack in any system other than specified
in this user instruction.
Do not force discharge battery packs as this may result in overheating, venting
and release of materials.
Do not open, puncture, drop, deform, crush or tamper with battery packs as this
could result in the release of materials. In the event that a battery is accidentally
ruptured, for whatever reason, contact PSD Technical Affairs at your local 3M
office.
Never use Lithium batteries in a completely sealed pressure container.
In the event that a battery pack is short circuited accidentally or starts to heat up
for no apparent reason then, where possible, it should be disconnected
immediately and removed to a well ventilated or outdoor area and allowed to
cool. Where it is not possible or practical to disconnect the battery pack, clear
the area until such time as any activity has subsided. Once stabilized to a safe
condition the battery pack may be disposed of. For any further advice contact
PSD Technical Affairs at your local 3M office.
Suitable protective clothing should be worn when handling suspect battery
packs.

valve seat for dirt or cracks.
3. Ensure that the head straps are intact and have good elasticity.
4. Examine all plastic parts for signs of cracks or fatigue.
5. Remove the exhalation valve cover and examine the exhalation valve and
valve seat for signs of dirt, distortion, cracks or tears. Replace the exhalation
valve cover.
Check that the filter is appropriate for the purpose – check colour code, letter
code and class.
Before initial use, always check that the product is within the stated shelf life
(use by date).
