5. If no spark occurs, remove the spark plug and
connect the ignition tester (A) to the spark plug cap

6. Connect the ground cable (C) to 1 of the cooling fins
on the cylinder.
7. Use the knob (D) to adjust the distance between the
2 electrodes to mm.
Note: 1 mark on the scale is 1 mm.
8. Pull the starter rope handle.
9. Do 1 of the steps that follow.
a) If a spark occurs between the electrodes on the
ignition tester, replace the spark plug.
b) If there is no spark between the electrodes on
the ignition tester, do a test of the ignition
module. Refer to
on page 27 .
6.11.4 To examine the ignition module
1. Remove the cylinder cover. Refer to
install the air filter cover, the muffler cover and the
cylinder cover on page 14 .
2. Remove the shaft. Refer to
the shaft on page 23 .
3. Examine the connections for damage, dirt and
corrosion.
4. Examine the cables for damage.

5. Connect a multimeter between point (A) and point
(B) and measure the resistance. The measured
value must be 80kΩ ± 20%. Replace the ignition
module if the measured value is incorrect.

6. Connect a multimeter between point (B) and point
(C) and measure the resistance. The measured
value must be 4kΩ ± 10%. Replace the ignition
module if the measured value is incorrect.
7. Examine the distance between the flywheel magnet
and the ignition module with the air gap gauge.

8. Loosen the screws and adjust the ignition module
until the distance is correct. Tighten the screws to
the correct torque. Refer to

9. Remove the air gap gauge.
