then iowered into the vacuum
columns, the head assembly is lowered, and a low-speed
rewind continues until the load point marker is sensed.
If the machine reel contains less than 1/2 inch of tape
when LOAD REWIND is pressed, a low-speed operation
is initiated. The rewind continues until load point marker
is sensed.
CAUTION
Do not open the reel door during rewind or load-point
search operations. This could cause the tape to break or
be damaged.
The Start Key,
when pressed, places the tape unit in
ready status and turns on the ready light if:
1.
The reel door is closed.
2.
Tape is loaded into the vacuum columns.
3.
The tape unit is not in process of rewinding tape.
The Unload Key,
when pressed, initiates a tape unload
1.
The ready light is off.
2.
Tape is in the vacuum columns.
3.
The reel door is closed.
Pressing UNLOAD turns off the tape indicate light,
raises the head assembly, and removes the tape from the
vacuum columns, regardless of the distribution of tape on
the two reels. If the tape is not at load point when a tape
reel is to be changed, a load point search should be initiated
first by pressing LOAD REWIND.
The Reset Key,
when pressed, removes the tape unit from
ready status and returns the tape unit to manual control.
Pressing RESET stops all tape unit operations in progress,
except unload with a high-speed rewind operation. A
high-speed rewind operation is shifted into low-speed re-
wind. After tape is loaded into the vacuum columns and
low-speed rewind is in progress, pressing RESET again
stops the rewind operation.
OPERATING THE POWER WINDOW
The reel door on the 2401 includes a tape access window
that automatically opens following a tape unload operation
and closes prior to a tape load operation. LOAD REWIND,
UNLOAD, and RESET are used to control the power
window, in addition to the operator functions pre-
viously described.
The Load Rewind Key,
when pressed, causes the power
window to raise and close before starting the load-rewind
operation. If any object prevents the power window from

closing, it will operate a safety bail at the top of the reel
door, which causes the window to reverse direction and
open.
The Unload Key,
if pressed when the tape unit is loaded
and not ready, will cause the power window to open after
the tape has been removed from the vacuum columns.
The Reset Key
may be used to close the power window
when the tape unit is unloaded and not being used. The
window cannot be closed if the reel door is open.
