IBM 1800 Operating Procedure

The
Form Advance Knob
is used to manually advance forms
in the printer. To use the form advance knob, the manual
clutch knob should be set to OUT.
The
Ty
pebar Insertion Wheel
is used to manually position
the typebar.
INSERTING A CONTROL TAPE
1.
Raise top cover of printer to gain access to control
tape reading mechanism.
2.
Turn manual clutch knob (A) to OUT.
3.
Raise brush assembly by lifting brush assembly
latch (B).
4.
Place one end of control tape, held so printed cap-
tions can be read
,
over pin-feed drive wheel (C) and
engage pins in center drive holes of control tape.
5.
Place opposite end of loop around adjustable
carriage tape idler (D).
6.
Remove excess slack from tape by loosening
carriage tape idler locking knob (D) and moving
idler in its track.
7.
Tighten carriage idler locking knob when desired
tension is reached. Tape should give slightly when
middle portions of loop are pressed together.
8.
Press brushes (E) into operating position.
9.
Press CARRIAGE RESTORE to bring tape to
channel-I punch (home position).
10.
With forms located at first print line
,
turn manual
clutch knob (F) back
to
IN.
11.
Close top cover of printer and press START to
ready printer.
