OPE RATOR CONTROLS (Figure 31 )
The Select Light turns on automatically when the unit
is
addressed by
the
program. The addressed tape unit must
be ready before it can operate under program control.
The Ready Light, when on, indicates that the tape unit
is ready to accept commands from the program. The
ready light is turned on by pressing START provided:
1.
Tape
is
loaded into the vacuum columns.
.
2.
The reel door is closed. (The reel door should not
be opened while the ready light is on.)
3.
The tape unit is not in process of rewinding tape.
Pressing START while tape is in motion, as in a load-
rewind operation, does not turn on the
ready
light until
the operation is completed.
When the ready light is off, manual control of the tape
unit
is
indicated provided the tape unit is not rewinding
tape or searching for load point, and the reel door is
closed.
The File Protect Light, when on, indicates that the loaded
tape unit is
file
protected. Neither writing nor erasing can
take place on this tape unit. The file protect light
turns
on when:
1.
No file reel is mounted.
2.
A file-protected tape reel is mounted.
3.
A load-rewind operation is in process.
4.
An
unload operation is in process.
Figure 31. 2401 Keys and Lights
The
light
is
turned
off by mounting
a tape reel that is
not file protected. If
the file protection
ring
has
been
re-
moved and this light
fails to turn on, notify a customer
engineer.
The Tape Indicate Light, when on,
indicates that
end-of-
tape marker has been sensed during
a forward motion
tape operation. The tape
indicate
light
is turned
off by
pressing UNLOAD or when
the
tape
unit
receives
a re-
wind, rewind/unload,
or
backward motion
tape
operation
command.
The CB (Circuit Breaker)
Light,
when
on,
indicates that a
power circuit breaker
has
been
turned off.
The tape unit
cannot operate until
the circuit
breaker
has
been reset by
a customer engineer.
The Load Rewind
Key,
when pressed
,
initiates a
tape load-
ing or a
rewind
operation. LOAD REWIND
is effective
only when the reel door is closed and the ready light
is
off.
Pressing LOAD REWIND after
tape is
properly mounted
lowers tape into the vacuum columns,
lowers the
head
assembly, and rewinds tape until the load point marker is
sensed. This positions the tape at load point,
ready for
either reading or writing.
If the machine reel
contains more
than
1/2 inch of tape
when LOAD REWIND
is
pressed, high-speed
rewind
op-
eration is initiated. Tape is
removed from
the
vacuum
columns, the head
assembly
is
raised, and
tape
is
rewound
at high speed untilless than 1/8
inch
of tape remains on
