Brakelight S\Nitch
(Pressure)
The brakelight switch is located on t he top Clfthe am>-
iliary brake master cylinder and is pressure activated
by U1e hand brake or the auxiliary brake ptedal. Titis
switch also activates tl1c start-in-gear (SIG ) relay
in
the power distribution module (PDM).
•NOTE: The ignition switch must be in the ON
position.
VOLTAGE
(Wiring Harness Side)
I. Set the mete r selector to the DC Vol tage position.
2. Connect the red teste r to the brown/black wire;
then co1mcct the black tester lead to grou111d .
3. The meter must sho'rv battery voltage.
•NOTE: If the meter shows no battery voltage,
troubleshoot the battery, fuse, switch , or the main
wiring harness.
•NOTE: If the meter shows battery voltage, the
main wiring harness is good; proceed to test the
switch/component or connector.

Always disconnect the battery when porformlng
resistance tests to avoid damaging t he mul·timeter.

Remove the spade connectors from U1e brake
switch.
2. Set the meter selector to the OHMS position.
3. Com1ect the red tester lead to one switch tc nninal:
tbeu connect U1e black tester lead to U1e other
switch tenn inal.
4. When the brake pedal is depressed.
the
meter must
sho" less than
I
ohm.
•NOTE : If the meter shows more than 1 ohm of
resistance, replace the switch.
THERMOSTATIC SWITCH

Connect the rueter ]cads (selector

position) to the switcb contacts.
2.
Suspend the switch and
a
thcmwmeter in a con-
tainer of cooking
oil:
then
heat the oil.
•NOTE: Neither the switch nor the thermometer
should be allowed to touch the bottom of the con-
tainer or inaccurate readings will occur. Use wire
holders to suspend switch and thermometer.
Wear insulated gloves and safety glasses. Heated oil
can cause severe burns.

3. When the coolant
