5.5 M-4J60 Printer Mechanism Repair

This section provides information that allows you to repair and replace defective components of the M-4J60
printer mechanism. Table 5-7 contains various symptoms and the corresponding causes, listed in order of
likelihood. Find the symptom in the table and troubleshoot the problem as instructed.
Condition
The CR unit moves

CAUTION

Cause
Symptom: The CR unit moves abnormally.
Check if the cleaner lever lock is
released and the CR unit is on the
platen side.
Check if it is operating normally by
cleaning, loading, and ejecting paper
using the control panel.
Check if the resistance of the motor
coil is as follows;
7.7 Ω ± 10 % at 25 °C per phase
(Refer to Table 5-1.)
Symptom: Ink absorption is abnormal.
Check if the tube is properly routed.
Check if the tube is securely
connected.
Check if the tubes in the pump unit
and under the cap are bent or
damaged.
Check if the cap is damaged.
Rotate the pump manually and see if it
rotates with constant resistance. Check
if it is damaged.
Check if signals are transferred to the
printhead.

Solution
Push the lever down
manually to take it out
of the CR's path.

Replace the cam
select assembly or
cam change lever in
the CR unit.
Replace the pump
motor.
Route the tube
properly.
Connect the tube
