DRY RUNNING PROTECTION (JP41463)

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

Use two tapping screws to fix the lug to the top hat rail in the
control unit housing on the right-hand side and slide the safety
barrier onto the top hat rail from the side.
The float switch is connected to the blue terminals X3/4 of the
safety barrier. The safety barrier (terminals X1/2) is connected
to the pump controls as shown in the illustration and/or circuit
diagram of the relevant pump control instructions.
NOTICE! Two 1.5 mm² cables (green/yellow) must be used in par-
allel to connect the safety barrier to the potential equalisation
(PEQ).
Functional test
With the operating mode switch of the control unit set to "Man-
ual", start to empty the chamber and continue until the dry run-
ning protection is activated. The pump should not take up any
air before it is switched off automatically (no "snoring" noises
should occur) – otherwise the float switch must be mounted
higher up.

MAINTENANCE

Dry-running protection is an important safety device for explo-
sion protection, and its good working order must be checked
at least once a year, and in commercially used systems twice
a year:
Turn the pump on by setting the operating mode selector
switch of the control unit to the "Hand" (Manual) position. In du-
plex units, the test must be carried out with both pumps one
after the other.
Observe the water level in the pump chamber.
The device is working correctly if the pump switches itself off
before it starts to draw air – without emitting "snoring" noises.
When the pump switches itself off, the ring housing (lower part
of the pump with the impeller) must still be completely under-
water. "Wassermangel" (Low water level) must be displayed in
the control unit.
Finally, return the operating mode selector switch to the "Auto-
matic" position.
The device is not working correctly if the pump only switch-
es itself off after it has already started to draw air or does not
switch itself off at all. In this case, the cause of the fault must be
searched for and rectified immediately by a specialist trained in
explosion protection!
