Engage pa rking bra ke o r service
brake b efore sta rtin g the engine.
P lace th e g e ar s e le c to r leve r in
e ith e r " N " o r " P " p o sitio n b e fo re
sta rting the engine.
Turn key in stee ring lock to p o s i­
tio n " 2 " . The charge in d ic a to r lig h t
m ust com e on.
Cold Engine
Turn key in ste ering lock clo ckw ise
to the stop. If necessary, depress
the a c c e le ra to r slo w ly a fte r the
engine has started firin g .
Release key o n ly w hen the e ngine
is running sm oothly.
Hot Engine
Turn key in ste erin g lock clo ckw ise
to the stop. Do not actua te a c c e le ­
ra to r im m e dia tely if the e n g ine is
w arm ed up o r at o p e ra tin g te m ­
perature. If the e n g in e has n o t fire d
a fte r a p pro x. 4 secon ds, d epress
a c c e le ra to r and c o n tin u e cra n kin g
the e n gine u n til it runs sm oothly.
Release key and back o ff a c c e le ­
ra to r a fte r the e n g in e has started.
Turning off
Turn the key in th e ste e rin g lock
to p o sitio n " 0 " and o n ly rem ove
the key when the v e h ic le is at
sta n d still.
If th e c o o la n t te m p e ra tu re is very
high (e.g. a fte r hard d riv in g on
m ountain roads), do not sh u t o ff
the e n g ine im m e d ia te ly but a llo w
it to run on fo r 1 - 2 m inutes at
in crea se d id le speed.
Hints
O bserve the oil p ressu re gauge
im m e dia tely a fte r s ta rtin g the
engine. In a very co ld e n g ine the

o il p re ssu re w ill o n ly rise slow ly,
som e tim e a fte r th e en g in e has
sta rte d . Do not rev up the engine
b e fo re p re ssu re is re g iste re d on
the pre ssu re gauge.
The charge in d ic a to r lig h t m ust go
out as soon as th e e n g ine has
started.
Do not engage th e s ta rte r c o n ­
tin u o u s ly fo r m ore than 20 seconds.
In case o f a c le a r d ro p in re vo lu ­
tio n s d u rin g th e s ta rtin g p ro ce d u re ,
im m e d ia te ly return key in the
s te e rin g lock to p o sitio n " 0 " and
a llo w the b a tte ry approx. 30 secs
to re co ve r (at very low a m bient
te m p e ra tu re s approx. 1 m inute).
Then re p e a t the e n tire sta rtin g
p ro ce d u re .
A t a m b ie n t te m p e ra tu re s o f less
than - 4 ° F ( - 2 0 ° C), d epress the
a c c e le ra to r three tim e s p rio r to
s ta rtin g .
