4.10 Starting, Steering, Operating,
and Stopping the Machine (Vanguard)
Requirements ■ Machine is in serviceable condition and has been properly maintained
■ There is fuel in the tank

1. Sit in the operator's seat.
2. Turn the starting key (a) clockwise until the engine starts.

NOTICE: Cranking the engine for more than five seconds can cause starter
damage.
■ If the engine fails to start, release the key switch and wait 10 seconds before
operating the starter again.
■ If the engine still will not start after multiple attempts, see chapter
Troubleshooting.
3. Press the throttle pedal to engage the blades.
