Chapter 4: DC power supply fundamentals

This section provides basic information about the Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 DC power
supplies.

Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 DC power supplies

This section describes the Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 DC power supplies.
The 8006, 8010, and 8010co chassis each have three power supply bays in which you can
install either the 8004DC or the 8005DC power supply. The 8003-R has two power supply bays
in which you can install either the 8004DC or the 8005DC power supply.
Caution:
The 8004DC and 8005DC power supplies have different power ratings. Therefore, Avaya
recommends that you do not operate the Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 with a mix of
power supply models.
If you upgrade the Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600, and you have a redundant power
configuration, you can hot-swap the 8004DC power supply with the 8005DC power supply
while the Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 system remains in operation. Do not operate the
chassis with a mix of power supply models for an extended period of time.
Important:
Upgrade the power supplies before you upgrade the modules.
Important:
The 8004DC or 8005DC power supply replaces the discontinued 8002DC power supply.
Avaya has not tested the 8002DC power supply with the Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600
modules released since Release 3.7. Therefore, Avaya recommends that you use the
8004DC or 8005DC power supply with these modules.
