Voltage
Under system load, the VX 680 terminal's fuel gauge reports battery pack voltage.
The range is from 6V to 9V. It is updated every 20 seconds.
The Base Station charges the terminal battery and provides a docking station for
the terminal after being used in pay-at-table environments. The Base Station can
be positioned on a countertop or mounted to the wall.
There are two types of Base Station, the standard model and the full-featured
model.
The standard Base Station can charge the VX 680 terminal. However, it does not
have any USB support and has a single LED to indicate power status.
The full-featured Base Station can charge the VX 680 terminal while charging an
extra battery pack. In addition, it has two USB ports for external dongles, together
with one LED for power indication and another LED for the charger status.
The following terms and definitions apply to most battery types, in general.
Ampere-hour, Amp-hour (Ah)
A unit of electrical energy. It is the specified current flowing for one hour. Two
ampere-hour is two amps of current flowing for one hour.
Battery Cell
The battery cell is the basic electrochemical unit used to store energy. Each cell is
typically rated 3.6V. Two cells in series typically have a voltage rating of 7.2V. The
VX 680 terminal uses two lithium-ion rechargeable cells per battery pack.
Battery Pack
A battery pack is an assembly of battery cells, safety circuit, fuel gauge,
temperature sensor, terminal contacts, and plastic case.
Battery Status, State of Charge
This refers to the amount of electrical charge stored in the battery, expressed as a
percentage of the difference between the fully-charged and fully-discharged
states.
Capacity
This refers to the amount of available energy in a fully charged battery, expressed
in ampere-hours (Ah) or milliampere hours (mAh).
The capacity of VX 680 terminal's high capacity battery pack is 1650 mAh
(minimum), 1800 to 1900 mAh typical (new).
