3. Remove the air filter from the housing

Do not clean a used filter element
because you may damage the filter media.
4. Wipe clean the interior of the air-filter cover and
housing (Figure 40).
5. Remove the rubber dust valve from the cover
(Figure 40).
6. Clean the dirt-ejection port located in the
air-cleaner cover, the dust-valve cavity, and
replace the dust valve
7. Inspect the new air filter for shipping damage,
checking the sealing end of the filter and the
body.
Important:
Do not use a damaged element.
8. Insert the new air filter by applying light pressure
to the outer rim of the filter to seat it in the
air-filter housing
9. Align the air-filter cover with the dust valve at the
6 o'clock position when viewed from the left end
of the cover (Figure

Reset the indicator if it shows red (if
equipped).

Servicing the Engine Oil

Note:
Change the oil more frequently when operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
Note:
Dispose of the used engine oil and oil filter at a
certified recycling center.

Oil Type: Detergent engine oil (API SJ or higher)
Crankcase Capacity: 2.0 L (2.1 US qt) when the
filter is changed

Checking the Engine-Oil Level
Service Interval: Before each use or daily—Check
Note:
The best time to check the engine oil is when
the engine is cool before it has been started for the
day. If the engine has already ran, shut it off and wait
for at least 10 minutes before checking the oil level.
1. Park the machine on a level surface.
2. Engage the parking brake.
3. Shut off the engine and remove the key.
4. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag
(Figure 42).

it seats fully.
