9 Troubleshooting

6 Engine overheats

Possible fault
Faulty injector/injection pump.
Sea cock closed.
Raw water strainer clogged.
Faulty raw water pump impeller.
Leak in raw water feed system.
Coolant level too low.
Faulty coolant pump.
Faulty thermostat.
Leak in coolant circuit .
Heat exchanger dirty or clogged
as a result of rubber particles
from a worn impeller.
Oil level too low.
Oil level too high.
Faulty oil filter.
Faulty oil heat exchanger.
Insufficient intake air.
Leak in inlet manifold.
Faulty turbo compressor.
Intercooler dirty.
Incorrect valve clearance.
Remedy
Check, replace if required.
Open.
Check / clean.
Check / replace.
Check / replace.
Check / top up.
Check / replace.
Check / replace.

Increase level.

overheated as a result of faulty
temperature switch, sensor or
meter.

Possible fault
Fuel supply line restricted.
Fuel filter clogged with water
and/or contamination.
Leaking fuel supply line or fuel
injection line.
Air in fuel system.
Intake valve blocked.
Incorrect valve clearance.
Fault finding table
Remedy
Check / replace.
Remedy
Check / clean.
Check or replace.
Check / replace.
Check and bleed.
Check /replace
Adjust.
