Depth of field in photography
When the subject is in focus, the areas in front of
and behind the subject are also within the range
of focus. The range is called "depth of field."

The more you open up the aperture, the more the
depth of field becomes shallower; on the other hand,
the more you close the aperture, the more the field
becomes wider.
The farther the distance to the subject is, the wider the
depth of field is, while the closer the distance is, the
shallower the field becomes.
The depth of field in front of focused subject is
shallower than that behind subject.

In the aperture AE mode, the flash distance is derived
from the quotient of guide number and aperture value.
