Before connect ing int erface cables t o t he print er, ensure t hat t he Power Swit ch is in t he OFF ( O) posit ion.

Choose t he correct cable when int erfacing t he print er t o t he host :
Th e Pa r a lle l Por t ( opt ional) support s parallel com m unicat ions via a 36- pin m ale m ini- Cent ronics
connect or. Bi- direct ional com m unicat ions ( forward and reverse channels) is support ed when an I EEE
1284 com pliant cable and support ing host soft ware is used.
Th e Et h e r n e t Por t support s Wired LAN com m unicat ions ( see Appendix B for inform at ion) .
Th e Se r ia l Por t support s RS- 232C com m unicat ions via a DB- 9 connect or wit h specific pin- out s
( int erface cable part num bers and pin- out s are given below; cont act your reseller t o order) . Serial port
set t ings are m enu- select able and m ust m at ch t he host set t ings.
Th e USB Por t support s high- speed serial com m unicat ions and requires a st andard USB int erface
cable.
Th e USB H ost Por t ( opt ional) . The USB Host Port allows t he print er t o accept ext ernal USB m em ory
devices for st oring graphics, label form at s, font s, and firm ware. The port can also accept an USB
keyboard for st andalone, direct dat a ( Line m ode) input applicat ions; see t he Program m er's Manual for
m ore inform at ion on how t o ut ilize t he port .
The print er aut om at ically est ablishes com m unicat ions wit h t he first port t hrough which valid dat a is
received. Aft erward, a t im eout period m ust be exceeded ( or power m ust be cycled OFF and ON) t o change
t he est ablished com m unicat ions port .
