Solving problems in the EXP3500 storage enclosure

The following table contains troubleshooting information to help you solve some basic problems that you
might have with the EXP3500 storage enclosure.

Possible cause
Possible solutions
Drive failure
Replace the failed drive. See Chapter 5, "Replacing
components," on page 5-1 for more information.
Board failure
Replace the failed ESM. See Chapter 5, "Replacing
components," on page 5-1 for more information.
General machine
A status or fault LED is lit. Check for amber LEDs
fault
on components. See "Checking the LEDs" on page
4-7.
The EXP3500 is
Make sure that all power cables are connected and
turned off
that the power is on. If applicable, make sure that
the main circuit breakers for the rack are turned on.
ac or dc power
Check the main circuit breaker and ac outlet (ac
failure
models). Check the -48 V dc power source and
disconnect device (dc models).
Power-supply
Replace the power supply. See Chapter 5,
failure
"Replacing components," on page 5-1 for more
information.
Midplane failure
Contact your IBM technical-support representative.
Drive rebuild or
No action is required.

Power supply
If the power-supply switch is on, turn off the
failure; power
power supply and then turn it on again. If the
supply turned off
condition remains, replace the power supply.
No ac power to
Check the ac power cord or breaker.

supply.
Power supply
If the power-supply switch is on, turn off the

Check the dc power cable or disconnect device.

power cable or the 20 A disconnect device.
v If the dc power cable and the disconnect device
are working properly, replace the power supply.
SAS
1. Reconnect the SAS cable.

the controller or device into which the other end
