Mains operation
· Oil the blade set (Fig. 6).
· Connect to the mains power supply.
· Using the on/off switch, switch on the appliance
(Fig. 1ⓐ).
· Using the on/off switch, switch off the appliance after
use (Fig. 1ⓑ) and disconnect from the mains.
Note for types 1170 and 1400
The audible click that can sometimes be heard when
switching on the appliance is a result of the torque of
the alternating current drive unit. This is normal and no
failure of the appliance. If a continuous noise occurs
the appliance is not defective but should be readjusted
using the adjusting screw (E) for the available supply
voltage (see following section).
Adjusting the blade amplitude (types 1170 and
1400)
The blade amplitude is set at the optimum setting
ex-factory. However, the blade amplitude can change
as a result of voltage fluctuations. For lower voltage the
blade amplitude can be smaller and for higher voltage
bigger. If necessary, by changing the setting of the
adjusting screw (E), you can adjust the blade amplitude
yourself. Use a screw driver to do this.
· Using the on/off switch, switch on the appliance
(Fig. 1ⓐ).
· Turn the adjusting screw (E) in a clockwise direction
until you hear a loud noise (Fig. 2ⓐ).
· Then turn the adjusting screw anti-clockwise until the
loud noise stops (Fig. 2ⓑ).
Cutting length adjustment (types 1170 and 1400)
· Without the attachment comb, the normal cutting
length of the appliance is approx. 0.1 mm.
· The cutting length can be adjusted between 0.1 and
3 mm, even when the appliance is in use.
· Slide down the locking switch (Fig. 3ⓑ).
· By moving the adjustment lever at the side
(Fig. 4ⓐ), it is possible to set the cutting length at
various pre-set positions (MultiClick).
· Sliding the locking switch upward (Fig. 3ⓐ) unlocks
the setting and restores the normal cutting length of
approx. 0.1 mm.
Attaching/removing the attachment comb
· Slide the attachment comb on to the blade set in the
direction of the arrow until it reaches the limit stop
(Fig. 5ⓐ).
· The attachment comb can be removed by pushing it
in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 5ⓑ).
Cutting with attachment combs (types 1170 and
1400)
Depending on the model, various attachment combs
are included in the scope of supply. Attachment combs
#1 (4.5 mm), #2 (6 mm), #3 (9 mm), #4 (14 mm),
#5 (19 mm) and an adjustable attachment comb (4 -
18 mm) are also optionally available as accessories.
· To achieve the desired cutting lengths, the adjust-
ment lever should not be locked (Fig. 4ⓑ); to this
end, slide the locking switch upward (Fig. 3ⓐ).
Cleaning and care
· Do not immerse the appliance in water!
· After each use, remove the hair clippings from the
blade set with the cleaning brush.
· Only wipe the appliance with a soft cloth, which may
be dampened slightly.
· Do not use solvents or abrasives!
· For a long-lasting, good cutting performance, it is
important to oil the blade set frequently (Fig. 6).
· If the cutting performance deteriorates after long use
despite regular cleaning and oiling, the blade set
should be replaced.
· Use the blade guard when the appliance is not in
use.
· Always store the appliance with the blade guard in
place.
Changing the bottom blade and the top blade
· Switch off the appliance using the on/off switch
(Fig. 1ⓑ).
· Disconnect from the mains power supply.
· Undo both screws on the blade set; remove the bot-
tom blade and the top blade (Fig. 8).
· Assembly types 1170 and 1400:
· Attention! The adjustment lever (B) must not
be locked. It will be unlocked by moving the
locking switch (E) upward (Fig. 3ⓐ).
· Place the top blade on the drive pin.
· Before assembly, the bottom blade and the top
blade should be oiled (Fig. 6).
· Position bottom blade and reinsert both screws.
· When assembling, the bottom blade and the
top blade should be aligned as follows (Fig. 7):
· The top blade must be parallel with the bottom
blade with a gap of 0.5 – 1.0 mm before tight-
ening the screws.
· This gap should also be maintained when
screwing the bottom blade back into place after
thorough cleaning; failure to do so could result
in injury.
· Tighten both screws (Fig. 8).
