CHANGING THE WIDTH - SECTION C
SECTION C - CHANGING THE
WIDTH OF THE SEAT FRAME
(SMALL TO LARGE OR VICE VERSA)
AND CHANGING THE WIDTH OF
THE BASE FRAME
NOTE: Refer to Procedure 1 - General Guidelines
which include GENERAL and SPECIFIC WARNINGS
concerning wheelchair stability.
1. Complete SECTION A - CHANGING THE
WIDTH OF THE SEAT FRAME and continue
with DISASSEMBLY OF THE BASE FRAME in
this section.
Disassembly of the Base Frame
NOTE: If changing from a small seat frame to a large
seat frame start with FIGURES 4 and 5 (which repre-
sents the small seat frame) and work toward FIG-
URES 6 and 7 (which represents the large seat frame).
If changing from a large seat frame to a small seat
frame, start with FIGURES 6 and 7 (which represents
the large seat frame) and work toward FIGURES 4
and 5 (which represents the small seat frame).
SINGLE TILT MECHANISM (FIGURES 4
AND 5).
1. Remove the rear wheels. Refer to REMOVING/IN-
STALLING THE REAR WHEELS in PROCEDURE
7 of the owner's manual, part number 1073955.
2. If so equipped, remove the two (2) mounting screws
that secure the crossbar to the foot activated wheel
lock. Refer to CHANGING THE WIDTH OF THE
FOOT ACTIVATED WHEEL LOCK in this PROCE-
DURE of the manual.
3. Remove the cable assembly from the tilt mechanism.
Refer to REMOVING/INSTALLING/ADJUSTING
THE CABLE ASSEMBLY in PROCEDURE 9 of the
owner's manual, part number 1073955.
4. Remove the mounting screw, washer, spacers, and
locknut that secures the top portion of the tilt mecha-
nism to the underside of the seat plate assembly
(FIGURE 4).
5. Remove the mounting screw and locknut that se-
cures the lower portion of the tilt mechanism to the
mounting bracket (FIGURE 4).
NOTE: Note the position of the adjustable height pivot
tube to maintain the same seat height. See FIGURE 4 -
DETAIL "A" .
6. Remove the mounting screws and locknuts that se-
cure the seat plate assembly to the base frame (FIG-
URE 5).
7. Lift seat plate assembly completely off base frame.
Set aside for later installation (FIGURE 5).
8. Remove the mounting screw, washer, and locknut
that secure the mounting bracket to the top front
crossmember of the base frame (FIGURE 5).
NOTE: Note the position of the top front crossmember
for proper reinstallation of the NEW top front
crossmember. FIGURE 4 - DETAIL "A" shows the rela-
tionship between the adjustable height pivot tubes and
the angle of the mounting bracket. This relationship must
be maintained for your desired height adjustment, other-
o
wise, 0
tilt minimum and 45
obtainable.
9. Remove the six (6) mounting screws that secure the
crossmembers to the base frame (FIGURE 5).
10. Secure NEW top front crossmember (the
crossmember with the three (3) holes), at angle and
position noted from above, with two (2) mounting
screws and washers. Torque 75-80 inch pounds (FIG-
URE 5).
11. Install the remaining two (2) NEW crossmembers
where existing crossmembers were just removed.
Secure with the existing four (4) mounting screws
and washers. Torque 75-80 inch pounds (FIGURE
5).
12. Secure mounting bracket(s) to top front crossmember
with the existing mounting screw(s), washer(s), and
locknut(s). Securely tighten (FIGURE 5).
NOTE: Single tilt mechanism will require one (1) mount-
ing bracket centered. Dual tilt mechanisms will require
two (2) mounting brackets off center.
13. Proceed to CHANGING THE WIDTH OF THE SEAT
PLATE ASSEMBLY in this PROCEDURE of the
manual.
