Installing Carbon Ribbon

and Media
This printer supports two types of print method, namely thermal transfer and direct thermal. The thermal
transfer is a print method that transfers the ink of the carbon ribbon to the media with the heat of the print
head. The direct thermal is a print method that develops the color on the thermal paper with the heat of
the print head. Do not install the carbon ribbon if you use the thermal paper.

3.1 Checking the Ink Side of the Carbon Ribbon

There are two types of wind direction of the carbon ribbon. Face-out means the ink is on the outer side
while Face-in means the ink is on the inner side. This printer supports the two wind directions. You can
examine the ink side of the carbon ribbon with the method as follows:

Put the outer side of the carbon ribbon
on the media so that the outer side
touches the media.

Scratch the inner side of the ribbon with
nail or a pointed object.

If there is a mark on the media, the ink is
coated on the outer side of the carbon
ribbon.
The ink is coated
on the inner side.
The ink is coated
on the outer side.
