Mantel Requirements

Use the table below to determine the maximum mantel depth allowed. The mantel depth (measured
from the face of the fireplace) must fall in the shaded portion of the table.
Any material that protrudes more than 3/4" (19mm) from the non-combustible facing is considered a
mantel and must meet the mantel requirements.

EXAMPLES:
You may have a 4" mantel at a minimum 43" above the base of the fireplace.
At 46", the maximum mantel depth is 8".

Mantel Column Clearances

Combustible mantel columns (legs) that protrude ¾" (19mm) or less from the glass frame must meet the
facing clearances (minimum 2-1/4" (57mm) from the side of the glass frame – 0" from side of fireplace).
Combustible mantel columns (legs) that protrude between ¾" (19mm) and 4" (102mm) from the glass
frame or non-combustible facing require a 5" (127mm) clearance to side of the fireplace (7-1/4" 185mm
from the side of the glass frame).
Combustible mantel columns (legs) that protrude more than 4" (102mm) from the glass frame or non-
combustible facing must meet the side wall clearance (minimum 12" (305mm) from side of the fireplace -
14-1/4" 362mm to the side of the glass frame).
Non-combustible mantel columns do not have a minimum clearance.
