11 Specifications
Fuel
Fuel consumption and emissions of
carbon dioxide
Official fuel consumption figures are based on
a standard driving cycle in accordance with EU
Directive 80/1268comb. Fuel consumption fig-
ures may change if the car is equipped with
11
extra equipment that affects the car's weight.
The manner in which the car is driven, and
other non-technical factors can also affect fuel
consumption. Consumption is higher and
power output lower for fuel with an octane rat-
ing of 91 RON.
NOTE
Extreme weather conditions, towing a trailer
or driving at high altitudes in combination
with fuel grade are factors that could affect
the car's performance.
Petrol
Most engines can be run with octane ratings of
91, 95 and 98 RON.
91 RON should only be used in exceptional
cases.
95 RON can be used for normal driving.
98 RON is recommended for optimum per-
formance and minimum fuel consumption.
When driving in temperatures above +38 °C,
fuel with the highest possible octane rating is
274
recommended for optimum performance and
fuel economy.
Petrol: Norm EN 228
IMPORTANT
Use only unleaded petrol to avoid damaging
the catalytic converter. In order for the Volvo
warranty to apply, never mix alcohol with
petrol, the fuel system could be damaged.
Diesel
The diesel engine's fuel system is sensitive to
contaminants, see page 198.
Diesel: Norm EN 590 or JIS K2204
