I have a masonry fireplace and chimney. I would like to convert to natural gas log kit. I would like to know if I can install horizontal vent through the back of the chimney. (see diagram) The existing chimney is very tall and the top section is in need of repair/replacement. I would like to remove the damaged portion and cap the top as it will no longer burn wood the height should no longer be needed to extend above the highest point of the roof. I just do not know if venting as desired can be done without the aid of a blower assist. Your assistance is appreciated. unfortunately for some reason I cannot attach my sketch. If you provide an email I can send it.

No, the Pleasant Hearth VL-WO18D natural gas log kit must be installed in a solid-fuel burning fireplace with a working flue and constructed of noncombustible material. It requires a vertical venting system with a minimum height as specified in the manual. Therefore, it cannot be installed with a horizontal vent through the back of a masonry chimney.
