IMPORTANT The back of the motor is supposed to slide into the cutout near the bottom of the firewall. It might be necessary
for you to enlarge the hole slightly so that your motor will fit without rubbing against the firewall.
step 2: instAlling the CoWling
❑ Glue the motor mount stick to the firewall from the back.
❑ Slide your motor assembly firmly onto the motor mount stick. When
positioned correctly, the back of the nut that the propeller fits over should be
1-3/4" (44mm) in front of the firewall (A). This will ensure that the cowling
will line up when it's installed.
Depending on the motor assembly that you're using, you may need to
cut the motor mount stick shorter to achieve the correct measurement.
❑ When satisfied with the alignment, secure the motor assembly to the
motor mount stick using two short wood screws (not included).
❑ Align the cowling on the fuselage and hold it in place with pieces of
masking tape. When aligned properly, the molded lip on the back of the
cowling should overlap the front of the fuselage evenly and the edges of the
cutout in the bottom of the cowling should line up equally over the bottom
sides of the fuselage. The hole in the front of the cowling should be centered
around the motor shaft, too.
❑ The cowling is held in place with three wood screws - one at each bottom
corner and one at the top. Drill 1/16" (1.6mm) pilot holes into the cowling
and through the fuselage, then install the wood screws.
PRO TIP Before installing the wood screws, apply a drop of thin C/A into
the pilot holes to strengthen the surrounding plywood.
Plywood plates have been preglued into the fuselage to thread the wood
screws into.
